BOKHARI’S DEATH
KARACHI, Dec 7:
Condoling the death of Prof. Ahmad Shah Bokhari, the President of
Pakistan Gen. Mohammad Ayub Khan, said:
“I am deeply grieved at the sad demise of Prof. Ahmad Shah Bokhari in
New York. As our representative in the United Nations in various
capacities he displayed rare gifts of diplomacy and oratory. He
was a brilliant educationist and an outstanding man of letters, who has
left his mark on the intellectual life of our country. His passing
away at this time is a great national loss”.

Dr.
Charles Malik, President of the UN General Assembly, paid tributes to
Prof. Bokhari at yesterday’s afternoon session of the World Forum.
Members stood for a minute’s silence in his memory and that of the
President of Bulgaria, M. Georgi Damyanov, and a former Soviet delegate,
M. Georgi Zarubin, who have also died since the last Assembly meeting.
Speaking for Pakistan, Prince Aly Khan, the Chief delegate, expressed
gratitude to the President for his very kind words of sympathy, which he
would convey to Dr. Prof. Bokhari’s family and Government.
Prince Aly Khan said Dr. Bokhari had been a close personal friend, to
whom he (the Prince) had been devoted.

FUNERAL SERVICES
FOR BOKHARI
NEW
YORK, Dec 6:
Funeral services for Prof. Ahmad Shah Bokhari, Pakistani Under-Secretary
in Charge of the United Nations Department of Public Information, who
died yesterday, will be held at Pakistan House today.
A Pakistani UN delegation announcement added that the Secretary-General,
Mr. Dag Hammarskjoeld, and Prince Aly Khan, Pakistan’s permanent UN
delegate, would speak at the ceremony, which would be followed by the
Namaz-i-Janaza (funeral prayers).
The Soyem ceremony of late Prof. Bokhari will be held at 8.30 a.m. today
(Sunday), at the residence of his brother, Mr. Z.A. Bokhari,
Director-General, Radio Pakistan, at 92 Bhurgari Road, near old
Exhibition Ground. |
