INFORMATION CIRCULAR

To: All Permanent Missions of the United Nations
To: Members of the Staff of the United Nations
I regret to announce that Professor Ahmed S. Bokhari, Under-Secretary for Public Information, passed away this rorning.
Professor Bokhari has been one of the senior officials of the Secretariat of the United Nations for four years. Before joining the Secretariat as Under-Secretary in charge of Public Information, he was Head of the Delegation of Pakistan to the United Nations. In both capacities his rich and perceptive mind has left its strong mark in the Organization.
He carried the dual heritage of Eastern and Western civilization. This gave him an unusual width of approach to those problems of our time with which the United Nations has to deal. He reflected in his personality the possibility of a synthesis of great traditions on which it is the task of our generation to build one world. He also knew in a deep personal sense the difficulties and tensions which must accompany such a process.
His influence will long be felt and his Unique personality will long be remembered by his friends and colleagues.

Dag Hammarskjold
Secretary - General
